This is the library’s old website, which has been replaced by ub.gu.se.
The website is used solely as reference material for the web and communications team and will be archived in the autumn of 2026.
Everyone can order digital copies from the library's collections. For staff and students at the University of Gothenburg, ordering scanned copies is free of charge, while there is a cost for other people.
You can order digitisation, that is digital copies, of all types of material, provided that it is held by the Library and that the work is out of copyright.
If you wish to order digitisation of copyrighted material, you must show that you have the copyright owner's permission to make a digital copy.
If you are not staff or a student at the University of Gothenburg, you need to provide your postal address and personal identity number or organisation number, so that we can invoice the digitisation.
It is important that you check if the material is copyrighted behfore you place an order. If the copyright owner has been deceased for more than 70 years the work is out of copyright. If the author of the work is unknown, the material can be used for digitisation 70 years after the date of publication.
You can check when an author was declared deceased in the national library catalogue Libris. You can also check when photographers, artists and other originators were declared deceased the Alvin platform.
You can fins more information on copyright in the Swedish Intellectual Property Office .
If you wish to order digital copies of copyrighted material, you must show that you have the author's permission. The author gives his or her permission by completing the University Library's electronic publishing agreement.
Staff and students at the University of Gothenburg can order digital copies of all types of material, such as books, newspapers, posters, photographs, postcards and manuscripts, free of charge.
For private individuals and researchers at other universities, each digitisation order has a start-up fee of SEK 100, which covers digitisation up to 25 pages, after which there is a charge of SEK 4 per image file. Normally one page corresponds to one image file. All prices are exclusive of VAT.
Please note that whole works correspond to more image files than pages in the book, as we digitise introductory pages, front and back matter, covers and endpapers.
An invoice is sent by email when the digitisation is complete.
For large funded orders and projects to be delivered according to a desired schedule, we price according to a quote. Contact us for a quote.
When the work is digitised you will receive a link to the digital copy via email. Time of delivery is usually ten working days, or a time agreed upon in a delivery plan.
We deliver the digitised material as a searchable PDF file. It is also possible to receive the following formats without any extra cost:
If you are a researcher at the University of Gothenburg applying for funding for a major funded project that includes digitisation, you should involve the library at an early stage so that we can deliver according to the desired schedule. We will help with cost calculation and planning the digitisation.
Please contact us if you have further questions about digitisation of material from the library collections.
